in the news: blake lively weds ryan reynolds

September 10, 2012 in movies, news

Even Gossip Girl didn’t know about this weekend’s biggest secret – Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds got hitched!

While no photos have emerged yet (apparently Martha Stewart Wedding will have the exclusive in the December issue), we have heard that the bride wore a Marchesa couture bridal ball gown with a hand-draped silk tulle bodice adorned with crystal and rose gold embroidery.

Apparently the bridesmaids wore blush silk chiffon gowns with crystal embroidered detail, also by Marchesa, and all the ladies wore shoes from Christian Louboutin (no surprises there!)

Rumour has it that Florence Welch (of Florence and the Machine) entertained the guests at the reception in Boone Hall Plantation in Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina. Sounds like a pretty rocking party!

We’ll let you know when photos emerge. For now, congratulations to the happy couple!

in the news: miss wu by jason wu

July 18, 2012 in fashion, news

After the success of Jason Wu’s collection for Target earlier this year, the designer has decided to launch a contemporary line called Miss Wu.

The ready-to-wear collection will be created in collaboration with US department store Nordstrom, which has a one-year exclusive on the new brand for the first year. A global launch is expected after the exclusive ends.

“Instead of just doing ‘Jason Wu-for-less,’ the idea is to explore the other side of myself,” Wu told WWD. “I always see Jason Wu as my aesthetic, my design sensibility. Miss Wu is my personality. It was really fun to explore that facet of who I am – slightly more downtown, and with a more relaxed attitude.”

The 40-piece Mod-inspired collection will be available in Nordstrom from January, with prices starting at $195.

What do you think about the new Miss Wu line?

in the news: fashion’s night out 2012 dates announced

May 10, 2012 in fashion, news

Vogue has announced the dates for this year’s Fashion’s Night Out. Interestingly, the event, which started as a way to boost sales for NYC retailers during the GFC, has been expanded so that it will now take place in all 19 countries where Vogue is published.

The UK, US, France, Italy, Germany, Spain, Russia, Mexico, Australia and Korea will hold their celebrations on September 6; China, India, Germany and Russia on September 7; Taiwan and Japan on September 8; Brazil on September 10 and 12; Portugal, Italy, Turkey, The Netherlands and Mexico on September 13; Italy on September 18; and Greece on September 20 and 25.

Some countries will have more than one city participating for the first time. Italy will hold events in Milan, Rome and Florence; Germany in Berlin and Dusseldorf; Russia, in Moscow and St Petersburg; Mexico will host events in Mexico City and Guadalajara; Brazil in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro; and in Greece in both Athens and Thessaloniki.

The fashion collection for this year’s event has also been released, featuring letter-blocked t-shirts ($25) and canvas totes ($30). While the shirts don’t do much for me, I’m quite a fan of the blue tote (above). All items can be bought from the Fashion’s Night Out website.

Will you be hitting FNO this year?

in the news: brad pitt for chanel n°5

May 9, 2012 in news

Well, here’s an interesting twist in the perfume wars: Brad Pitt is going to be the new face of Chanel N°5.

Yes, that’s right. The actor will be taking over where Audrey Tatou and Nicole Kidman left off. Apparently he’s also receiving a seven-figure salary for the honour – so using a man is definitely not a cost saving measure.

I’ll reserve judgement until I see the ad but on face value, it seems a bit of a strange choice for me (unless, of course, Chanel is planning to release a male version of the fragrance). What are your thoughts?

The collection will feature jewelry, sunglasses, shoes, bags and a trolley, all featuring Della Russo unique and flamboyant style. Our first peek at the collection is the photo on the right, and the video below gives us a bit more of a look at the inspiration behind the collection (as well as a tour of Della Russo’s incredible apartment!)

The Anna Della Russo x H&M collection will be available in approximately 140 stores worldwide and online from 4 October 2012, timed to coincide with NY/London/Paris/Milan Fashion Weeks.

What do you think of the peek of the collection? Does anything strike your fancy so far?
