lusting for: splashed palette dress

June 30, 2011 in fashion by Lauren

Can you believe that cooler weather clothes are already hitting the stores? I must admit that while I’m not ready to wear them, I am excited to see some more tailored shapes and a little less of that 70s vibe we’ve been getting this summer.

Out of the new stock I’ve seen this week, I’m really lusting for this trench – but it’s been a scorching 33 degrees here in Geneva this week and I’m sweating just thinking about putting it on!

So instead, I’ve opted for this trans-seasonal strapless number from Anthropologie. I love the colours and the Monet-esque flowers – and I’m always a fan of dresses that come with detachable belts that I can use in other outfits. Best of all, it’s a silk blend so it would be light enough to wear even in the current heatwave!

The Splashed Palette Dress retails for $188 at Anthropologie.

in the news: elizabeth taylor’s jewels on tour

June 29, 2011 in news by Lauren

Elizabeth Taylor was almost as famous for her jewels as she was for her acting and now that their owner has left for the big jewelry box in the sky, those jewels need to find new homes.

Before they are auctioned off by Christie’s in New York in mid-December, they’re going on a world tour starting in September and going to Moscow, London, Dubai, Geneva, Paris, Hong Kong and Los Angeles.

The tour will end in New York, where Christie’s plans a “museum-quality exhibition” of the late actress’ collection that will fill its entire gallery space in early December.

The public will also have the chance to see Taylor’s couture collection, art and film memorabilia, which will also form part of the auction.

A portion of the proceeds from the exhibition admissions and publications related to the sales will be donated to The Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation.

I’m so excited the tour is coming through Geneva and I’ll be sure to report back to you on the exhibit! Will you be going along if the tour is coming through your town?

in the news: smurfette does designers

June 28, 2011 in fashion, news by Lauren

The gang at Harper’s Bazaar decided to feature the gorgeously blue Smurfette in an accessories spread for their August issue (the one with Anne Hathaway on the cover – check out her own fabulous London-themed shoot here).

I must say Smurfette knows how to work her labels, wearing Marc Jacobs, Lanvin, Dolce & Gabbana and Louis Vuitton (pictured).

Check out all the photos on the Harper’s Bazaar website.

The August issue of Harper’s Bazaar will hit news stands on 12 July and Smurfette’s new film, The Smurfs, hits cinemas in the US on 29 July.

(almost) at the movies: a dangerous method

June 27, 2011 in movies by Lauren

I tend to enjoy dramas with an historical element and given I did a minor in psychology during my undergrad, I’m particularly looking forward to A Dangerous Method.

The upcoming film stars Michael Fassbender as Carl Jung, Viggo Mortensen as his mentor, Sigmund Freud, and Keira Knightley as patient Sabina Spielrein. The film charts the birth of psychoanalysis on the eve of World War 1 in Germany but even if you’re not partiuclarly interested in psychology, it looks like it could be quite an intense drama.

Release dates are still sketchy but the film is planned to be on the big screen in the UK at least on 12 February 2012.

friday film: tom ford A/W 2011

June 24, 2011 in fashion by Lauren

Remember about four months ago when Tom Ford showed his autumn/winter 2011 collection to just a small group of editors and buyers rather than through a full runway show?

Well, now the designer is sharing his collection with the rest of us through film – and I must say, it was worth the wait. Ladylike silhouettes, delicate lace, sumptuous furs and luxurious velvet are enough to make me wish it was winter again! Enjoy!
