lusting for: reiss lauren leather jacket

January 31, 2012 in fashion by Lauren

Surely I’m not the only one who feels a strong desire to buy clothing when the style name is the same as my own. So many brands use female names for their products and whenever a “Lauren” pops up, I always want it! (Is this perhaps part of their marketing strategy?)

The latest “Lauren” to cross my path is the gorgeous grey leather jacket from British chain, Reiss.

It doesn’t hurt that I’ve been looking for a light coloured biker jacket for a while now, and I adore the quilted sleeves and rose gold zips on this one.

Then again, at £375 / $710 / €465, I might have to keep this “Lauren” on my lust list until sale time (or second cut sale… or third cut sale…)

If you’re a little more flush than I am right now, you can buy your own version of my namesake jacket from Reiss in the US, EU or UK.

best dressed at the 2012 SAG awards

January 30, 2012 in fashion by Lauren

The Screen Actors Guild Awards last night were the last big States-side awards before the Oscars and, considering this was the final chance to experiment with gowns, I was a little unimpressed with the red carpet. I hope the stars step up their game again for the BAFTAs!

Blacks: There were some great black gowns including Emma Stone‘s Alexander McQueen tea-length dress, Tina Fey‘s beaded Versace, Jayma Mays‘ Reem Acra sequined gown and Stacy Keibler‘s lace Marchesa.

Whites: I couldn’t go passed Best Actress Viola Davis in her spectacular Marchesa gown but I also loved Julianna Margulies in Calvin Klein, and Rose Byrne‘s Elie Saab jumpsuit.

Reds: I think Michelle Williams looked amazing in her red Valentino lace edged gown, Kyra Sedwick rocked her cutout Pucci and Ahna O’Reilly was elegant but modern in Nha Khanh.

Silver: It’s a colour we haven’t really seen this season so far but last night, the stars loved it. Octavia Spencer wore Tadashi Shoji, Lea Michele wore Versace and Naya Rivera showed off her amazing figure in Naeem Khan.

I have two favourite gowns of the night – Michelle Willams in red Valentino (above) and Natalie Portman in her divine plum Giambattista Valli strapless gown with the oversized rosette. I thought Michelle’s shoes were a tad heavy for the dress so Natalie just pips her at the post this time – but Natalie didn’t do the red carpet so Michelle gets the photo. Whose look did you like best?

friday film: karl interviews karl

January 27, 2012 in entertainment, fashion by Lauren

As you’re probably already aware, Karl Lagerfeld launched his Karl collection for Net-A-Porter this week (check out the full collection here). The site went into advertising overdrive ahead of the release and in seemed to pay off because many of the pieces have already sold out.

One of the promotional materials supporting the collection was an interview with a twist – it’s Karl interviewing himself. I know it sounds odd but it’s really quite amusing (and it’s in English, in case you were wondering). Check it out below and have a fabulous weekend!

(almost) at the movies: friends with kids

January 17, 2012 in movies by Lauren

If you haven’t seen the trailer for Friends With Kids yet, make sure you check it out below. Basically, it’s like the cast of Bridesmaids got back together – only this time (as the title suggests), they have kids.

The film stars Kristen Wiig and John Ham as newlyweds, Maya Rudoph and Chris O’Dowd as the married-with-kids couple, and Jennifer Westfeldt and Adam Scott as the friends who decide to have a kid together. I must say it looks like it has definite potential!

Friends with Kids is out in the US on 9 March (no word on other markets yet).

best dressed at the 2012 golden globes

January 16, 2012 in fashion by Lauren

Three red carpet posts in a row? It must be awards season!

Last night’s Golden Globes saw the stars return to safer, classic Hollywood styles and colours, though there were still some gorgeous dresses in the mix. Let’s break down the biggest trends – as always, follow the links to see all the dresses.

Nude: Classic nude might be a little dull but each leading lady put her own spin on the trend. Most eye-catching for me was Angelina Jolie in her red-accented Versace sheath, though Elle Macpherson in Zac Posen was also incredible. Fellow model Heidi Klum accessorised her Calvin Klein gown with a turquoise necklace, while Kate Beckinsdale elegantly demonstrated diamonds are the best friend of her Roberto Cavalli dress. Finally, Charlize Theron‘s Dior gown was so elaborate that it would not have worked in any other colour.

Pinks and Purples: Girly hues were plentiful on the red carpet. Last year’s golden girl, Natalie Portman was rosy in Lanvin, Tina Fey was fabulous in deep fuchsia Oscar de la Renta, Viola Davies showed some leg in a stylish Pucci plum and new mum Jessica Alba glowed in pale mauve Gucci.

Black: It’s never my favourite look for the red carpet but I must confess some of the ebony frocks on display were quite spectacular. Topping my list was Julianne Moore in fishtailed Chanel, Mila Kunis in draped Dior, Rooney Mara in Nina Ricci and Salma Hayek in embellished Gucci

Belts: We saw this trend at last year’s Globes and it’s back again. Emma Stone continues to delight in belted plum Lanvin, Helen Mirren looked elegant as always in her belted deep blue Badgley Mischka and Sarah Hyland was all grown up in Dolce & Gabbana.

While all the ladies looked lovely, I’ve narrowed down to two favourites – Dame Helen Mirren and Emma Stone (above). Seriously, can either of them do anything wrong? Who do you choose as your best dressed?
