in the news: mcqueen at the institute

The Valentino Retrospective may be drawing to a close at GoMA in Brisbane this weekend but today we’ve heard news of another great designer retrospective.

Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty will open at the Costume Institute Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York on 4 May 2011 and run until 31 July 2011. The exhibit will feature approximately 100 McQueen creations from his London archive and personal collections as well as his designs for Givenchy, where he worked in the late 1990s.

The retrospective launches two days after the Costume Institute Gala, which will also have a McQueen theme. Honorary Chairs of the gala will be François-Henri Pinault and Salma Hayek, while Co-Chairs will be Colin Firth, Stella McCartney and Anna Wintour. With leadership like this, we can expect the gala to be a super-stylish event befitting its honouree.

Sounds to me like it’s time to start planning a spring visit to New York, New York…
