best dressed at the 2011 golden globes

January 17, 2011 in fashion

The Golden Globes is a bit of a warm up for the Oscars – the winners here often go on to win the little man, the stars pull on beautiful frocks and it gives everyone a chance to work out what the best looks of the year will be.

Big winners were The Social Network, Boardwalk Empire and Glee. View the full list of winners here.

There were some hot trends to emerge from today’s red carpet. Here are my favourites and the stars who I think rocked that look the best.

One-shouldered: Nicole Kidman did Australia proud, looking sleek and elegant in her pale yellow Prada.

Long sleeves: Not normally something we see at the awards but Leighton Meester in Burberry and Anne Hathaway in Armani Privé really rocked it.

Minimal and shapely: Both Claire Danes and Emma Stone rocked the minimal look in Calvin Klein – and they looked amazing!

Over-the-top bling: Oliva Wilde‘s chocolate Marchesa gown is worthy of the princess wearing it (she is married to a prince, after all.)

Bottle-green: Angelina and Catherine Zeta Jones may have both worn it but Mila Kunis is unbeatable in her draped, one shouldered gown by Vera Wang.

Firey red: Mad Men’s Christina Hendricks and January Jones both matched their gowns to the carpet, by January’s va-va-voom Versace and sleek hair get my vote.

Girly pink: A pregnant Natalie Portman looked gorgeous in light pink Viktor & Rolf to take out her Best Dramatic Actress Golden Globe.

Cool blue: I loved both Mandy Moore‘s Monique Lhuillier tulle concoction and Amy Adam‘s Marchesa laser cut navy number.

Classic nude: Glee starlet Dianna Agron was drop dead gorgeous in her sparkling J. Mendel number.

Patterned: We rarely see patterns on the red carpet but I thought Heidi Klum‘s Marc Jacob’s gown was a breath of fresh air.

Special mention goes to Helen Mirren for looking so freaking amazing on the red carpet in her muted gold Badgley Mischka gown with beaded sleeves (and the $6 million necklace didn’t hurt!) I hope I look as good as her when I get to that age.

With so many gorgeous gowns, I can’t choose just one so help me out – who do you think was best dressed?
