royal wedding round-up
April 30, 2011 in news
After months of speculation, it’s all over. Yesterday, Prince William married Kate Middleton and they became the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. If you missed the live Twitter stream yesterday, here’s a round-up of the best moments.
The Dress: When Kate Middleton stepped out of the car at Westminster Abbey and it was finally confirmed that the dress was designed by Sarah Burton at Alexander McQueen, the fashion world cheered. Read all about the dress here.
The Second Dress: Sometimes one dress just isn’t enough! The Duchess changed into a second dress – also by Burton – for the evening dinner dance reception. The gown was very similar in silhouette to her wedding dress but without the lace, embroidery or train. Instead, it was adorned with a diamante belt and accessorised with a white angora bolero. See it at The Cut.
Best Quote: (William to Kate as she arrived beside him at the altar) “You look stunning, babe”.
Best Sign in the Crowd: “Checkmate Kate, you’ve taken the king”
Most Unexpected Moment: The newlyweds departed the lunchtime reception at Buckingham Palace in a classic Aston Martin convertible decorated with balloons and with the numberplate “JUST WED”. See it at The Telegraph.
Awkward Moment: The Prince has a bit of trouble slipping that little circle of Welsh gold onto Kate’s finger – but he managed to put a ring on it!
Crowd-Pleasing Moment: After their first kiss was deemed by the public to be too short, the Duke lent over to his bride and said “one more, let’s do it” before embracing her again. The crowd went wild!
