mother’s day gift ideas
May 5, 2011 in fashion
On Sunday, it’s time to thank your mum and the other mother figures in your life. Here are some of my favourite ideas for how to treat her. (My own mum reads here occasionally so I can’t say what I got – but I think it’s awesome!)
Flowers: Traditional, but always welcome, flowers let your mum know you’re thinking of her – particularly if you’re far away from one another. Australians should check out Ready Flowers because they’re doing a Mother’s Day special where you get 20% off the second bunch (the boy and I took advantage of it to send flowers to both our grandmothers there).
Pampering: Who doesn’t love a good chance to unwind while somebody massages your cares away? If you’re in the same city, why not make it a double session so your mum gets the present of your presence as well! If you’re not in the same city, most spas offer gift vouchers that they will send out on your behalf.
Concerts: One year, I took my mother to a Lionel Richie concert – she loved him but there wasn’t anybody else who wanted to go with her. Sometimes setting aside your own musical preferences to hang out with your mum can be even more special than the concert itself.
Something pretty: Whether it’s a cute pair of earrings, a printed scarf or even one of these cute monogrammed mugs (pictured) from Anthropologie (only $8 in the US or €10 in Europe), she’s sure to love it and think of you every time she uses it.
But of course, the most important thing is just to remember to tell her you love her. Say hi to your mum for me!

My mum is (obviously) asian, so it makes mothers day giving a little easier. This may not sound very thoughtful, but we just give money (red packet). Oh and treat them to a chinese banquet lunch in conjunction
These are great gift ideas though – wouldn’t mind receiving some of these when i become a mum one day!
