in the news: old bridesmaid dress = new lbd!

Do you remember in 27 Dresses when Katherine Heigl’s character had an entire wardrobe dedicated to her old bridesmaid dresses? Well, she – and you – could benefit from a cool new concept courtesy of Newly Maid.

The basic idea is that you send the company your lightly worn bridesmaid dress (or prom dress or mother-of-the-bride outfit or special occasion dress) and they will either donate it to Clothes4Souls or, if the dress is 100% polyester, they will melt it down to create a new fabric that will become a brand new dress.

In exchange for your unwanted frock, you’ll get a special deal on a brand new LBD (right). There are six classic styles to choose from that cost between $90 and $115 with “trade-in”. Of course, you can buy the dresses without trading in an old dress if you like but the cost is higher ($165-$200).

The service is currently only available in the US and you can find out more information on the Newly Maid website.

So what are you waiting for? Get spring cleaning that closet and get a new party frock at the same time!

  • Ive never been a bridesmaid before, but I think this a great idea for bridesmaids stuck with an unwanted dress. Fortunately, I love all my special occasions dresses!

    • @Vintageglammz – I haven’t been a bridesmaid before either but I think this could be a great service for girls stuck with a horrid taffeta number! I just hope if the time ever comes for me to be a bridesmaid, the bride remembers that the bridesmaids are in their wedding photos too 🙂
