(almost) at the movies: the girl with the dragon tattoo
May 30, 2011 in movies
It always annoys me when a well-made film (or TV show) is remade for an American audience and as far as I’m concerned, the English version of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo is just that (though I know there are plenty of folks who will disagree with me).
The first trailer for the upcoming film was released here in France and also in Sweden last Wednesday before showing select US theaters over the weekend.
The trailer suggests it will be “the feel bad movie of Christmas” and it will be interesting to see how this adaptation goes (though I must admit I’m a little biased in favour of any film starring Daniel Craig…)
Excuse the screener below but the official trailer isn’t yet available online. The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo will be released in the US on 21 December 2011 and the UK on 26 December 2011 (with Australia almost certainly getting a Boxing Day release as well).
Update 2 June: The screener video has been taken down so I’ve replaced it with the official version. Apologies for any inconvenience.

I’m with you on this one – I’ve ready the books and have seen the Swedish movies and while things from a novel always get lost in a film adaptation, what I appreciated about the Swedish versions is that I could believe each of those characters are who they are (if that makes any sense). I hope the English version isn’t too big-budget and glamourized!
@Lisa – I’ve got the same concern that it might just end up a “blockbuster” rather than focusing on the gritty story. I guess time will tell…
hmm..this would be interesting. I feel the same as Lisa above. I don’t think i’ll rush out to see this one. I’ve read the book and seen the swedish version so I think that’s plenty already – was quite disturbing in parts

@vintageglammz – I found parts quite disturbing too, especially on film. For some reason I always find it easier to process such things in a book than watching them on screen.
