best dressed at the 2012 golden globes

Three red carpet posts in a row? It must be awards season!
Last night’s Golden Globes saw the stars return to safer, classic Hollywood styles and colours, though there were still some gorgeous dresses in the mix. Let’s break down the biggest trends – as always, follow the links to see all the dresses.
Nude: Classic nude might be a little dull but each leading lady put her own spin on the trend. Most eye-catching for me was Angelina Jolie in her red-accented Versace sheath, though Elle Macpherson in Zac Posen was also incredible. Fellow model Heidi Klum accessorised her Calvin Klein gown with a turquoise necklace, while Kate Beckinsdale elegantly demonstrated diamonds are the best friend of her Roberto Cavalli dress. Finally, Charlize Theron‘s Dior gown was so elaborate that it would not have worked in any other colour.
Pinks and Purples: Girly hues were plentiful on the red carpet. Last year’s golden girl, Natalie Portman was rosy in Lanvin, Tina Fey was fabulous in deep fuchsia Oscar de la Renta, Viola Davies showed some leg in a stylish Pucci plum and new mum Jessica Alba glowed in pale mauve Gucci.
Black: It’s never my favourite look for the red carpet but I must confess some of the ebony frocks on display were quite spectacular. Topping my list was Julianne Moore in fishtailed Chanel, Mila Kunis in draped Dior, Rooney Mara in Nina Ricci and Salma Hayek in embellished Gucci
Belts: We saw this trend at last year’s Globes and it’s back again. Emma Stone continues to delight in belted plum Lanvin, Helen Mirren looked elegant as always in her belted deep blue Badgley Mischka and Sarah Hyland was all grown up in Dolce & Gabbana.
While all the ladies looked lovely, I’ve narrowed down to two favourites – Dame Helen Mirren and Emma Stone (above). Seriously, can either of them do anything wrong? Who do you choose as your best dressed?
