at the movies: sex and the city 2
Well ladies, it’s finally here. That movie we all knew would never live up to the TV show but that we still planned to see anyway. Early reviews slammed it but they certainly didn’t deter the droves of frocked-up women who headed to the cinemas last night.
I’ve been a SATC fan since high school and I knew this film wouldn’t come close to the glory days of the show that pushed the envelope – after all, three of the girls are now married and two are mothers – but I was going along for some fun and frivolity. In my opinion, the movie delivered.
Similar to the previous movie, SATC2 feels like you’re watching a five-episode marathon of the show on HBO. There are a few deep moments but generally it’s pretty superficial, full of puns and, of course, over the top fashion. The highlight of the movie for me was Liza Minelli’s rendition of Beyonce’s “Single Ladies” complete with dance moves.
I can understand where the negative reviews came from but I think those reviewers forget the point of the movie – it’s the perfect excuse for a fun girls night out. In my book, that’s reason enough to see it.
