eating out: wild pepper at coorparoo
Like a few restaurants around town, Wild Pepper Pizzeria at Coorparoo has recently undergone a change of ownership, with the store’s long-time manager taking over operations. Last night, the boy and I headed over to check out what the new owner had done with the place.
The Wild Pepper name remains, as does much of the menu, but a few little changes are sneaking their way in. It will be interesting to watch the restaurant evolve and distinguish itself from its former-sister store over the next few months.
After taking our seats in the comfortably busy restaurant, we shared some perfectly crispy pizza bread to start (we opted for pesto and garlic) before moving onto our mouth-watering mains. I chose the Pepperoni (with green capsicum, chilli, mozzarella and parmesan) while the boy opted for the more substantially topped Montague (eggplant, spinach, artichoke, feta, sun-dried tomatoes, pancetta and mozzarella). Both were delicious and I’m not ashamed to say that for possibly the first time in my life, I ate more than the boy. We also shared an amazing feta salad, which I can strongly recommend.
Delicious though the earlier courses were, my favourite part of the meal would have to be the dessert pizza. The 6″ pizza is a little slice of heaven, topped with chocolate and your choice of strawberry, banana, or pear and berry. Served with vanilla ice-cream, my strawberry pizza was perfection (see photo). Again, I’m not ashamed to say that the boy didn’t even get a bite (he opted for gelato instead).
All in all, it was a very tasty and affordable night out ($55 for two people to stuff themselves silly). Just remember it’s BYO so if you want some vino, pick some up on your way. Buon appetito!
