eating out: ginga emporium
Where do you go for date night when one of you feels like sushi but the other wants something hot and greasy? The recently-opened Ginga at Emporium apparently.
Unlike its sister store at Southbank, Ginga at Emporium feels quite cozy and would be perfect for a first date. There are booths around the outside with the usual sushi train in the middle. The sushi menu is fairly standard though the train also features bamboo baskets filled with delicious yum cha choices – which are actually hot!
The soft opening menu features a selection of tasty sounding choices (full meals around the $25 mark) but we opted to go for the train. My personal favourite was the BBQ pork buns ($4.50 for two) but everything we had was fresh and served at the appropriate temperature, be it hot or cold.
We shared about ten plates and had a miso soup and a lychee tea each to bring our total bill to around the $55 mark. Bear in mind that the restaurant does not yet have its full liquor license (it’s on the way) but you can BYO and there’s a bottle store right next door.
I enjoyed my meal and thought it was a cheap, casual and tasty night out.
