the queen’s jubilee = british sales!

May 31, 2012 in fashion by Lauren

This weekend marks the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and to celebrate, many of my favourite British retailers are putting on some smashing deals. Here are a few I know about – if you know of any more, leave a comment!

Anthropologie: It’s not a British brand but shoppers using the EU site get the benefit of 30% off a selection of tea-party appropriate items until Tuesday. My pick is the Inkjet Halter Dress (now €126.40) or, if you can pull it off, the sunny Cascading Waves Dress (now €176.80).

ASOS: Our favourite British online retailer is offering 20% off selected brands until 9am Wednesday. There are so many items to choose from, including a range of British inspired items like Motel’s Union Jack Dress (right).

Dorothy Perkins: The cheap and cheerful high street store is offering up to 30% off everything. My favourite bargain is the Blue Butterfly Shift Dress (now £25.20)

Reiss: A favourite of the newest royal, Reiss is offering 10% off everything today only. Even better, the discount coincides with the addition of some new sale stock as well as the free shipping offer. I’ve already snapped up the gorgeous Rita Dress (now £95.40).

Whistles: Another of the Duchess’ picks is currently offering 20% off dresses. The Clara Lace Pleated Dress (now €185) would be perfect for high tea.

Keep calm and carry on? Not likely with these bargains! Happy shopping!

friday film: a therapy

May 25, 2012 in fashion by Lauren

I think it’s great that so many fashion labels have started putting out short films to promote their collections and today’s is one of the best I’ve seen so far.

A Therapy from Prada stars Helena Bonham Carter and Ben Kingsley, and was directed by Roman Polanski. It’s fabulous to watch and it will give you a giggle for your Friday morning – enjoy!

(almost) at the movies: the great gatsby

May 23, 2012 in movies by Lauren

We’ve been waiting a while for this trailer to land and today, it’s finally here!

The upcoming release of The Great Gatsby is directed by Baz Luhrmann and stars Leonardo diCaprio, Carey Mulligan and Tobey Macguire, and it’s lined up to be the biggest release of the 2012 holiday season.

I’m excited to see the costumes look as incredible as I’d hoped, but with Catherine Martin at the helm, I had no doubts. Stay tuned for a fashion inspiration post, because the film has already been influencing the catwalk months before its release.

What do you think of the slick, art-deco influenced trailer? Are you looking forward to the film as much as I am?

The Great Gatsby will be released on 25 December in the US, 26 December in the UK and 10 January 2013 in Australia.

what’s on: ballgowns: british glamour since 1950

May 19, 2012 in fashion by Lauren

If you’re in London over the next few months, be prepared for the onslaught of fabulous exhibits timed to coincide with the Olympics.

The one I’m most excited about is Ballgowns: British Glamour Since 1950 at the V&A. The exhibit features more than 60 gowns designed by such names as Alexander McQueen, Dame Vivienne Westwood, Erdem, John Galliano and Bruce Oldfield.

The gowns themselves have been worn by famous faces including Diana, Princess of Wales, Bianca Jagger, Elizabeth Hurley and Beyoncé.

Ballgowns: British Glamour Since 1950 opens today and runs through until 6 January 2013 at the V&A Museum. Entry to the exhibit is £10 (though the rest of the museum is free to enter anytime).

best dressed at cannes 2012 opening ceremony

May 16, 2012 in fashion by Lauren

It’s that time of year when the south of France becomes extra glamorous – the Cannes Film Festival kicked off tonight.

There were some gorgeous gowns on the red carpet and here are a few of my favourites.

I always love Diane Kruger. Sartorially, I feel she can do no wrong, especially when she turns up in a gorgeously frothy concoction from Giambattista Valli. She’s a juror for the Palme d’Or so expect to see plenty more of her on the red carpet during the festival.

Freida Pinto took a bit more of a risk in her Michael Angel gown, but I think she pulls it off. She’s working multiple hot trends (sequins, peplum AND the thigh-high split) but I just wish she had chosen a less chunky pair of shoes.

Jane Fonda was spectacular in Atelier Versace. The 74-year old looked age appropriate, yet totally fabulous in her bronze gown. I just hope I look half as good at that age!

Who gets your vote for best dressed at the opening ceremony?
