French Pharmacy Favourites

I love French pharmacies and when I was in Paris this week, I couldn’t resist stocking up on all my favourite products. While I prefer browsing charming corner pharmacies, this time I was on a mission so I went to the big CityPharma in Saint-Germain. I should warn you that it’s crowded and not at all charismatic, but it has everything you could possibly want!

in the news: barbie joins linkedin

July 2, 2014 in news by Lauren

Barbie has joined LinkedIn

It seems Barbie is not content with ruling the toy boxes of girls the world over – now she wants to take over the corporate world!

As part of her newest career, Entrepreneur Barbie has joined career networking site LinkedIn. It seems she’s just launched a new company – Dream Incubator – where she is a consultant, “helping girls around the world play out their imagination, try on different careers, and explore the world around them”. Sounds like a great job to me!

Barbie’s LinkedIn page also highlights a range of female entrepreneurs, including Reshma Saujani from Girls Who Code, Jennifer Hyman & Jenny Fleiss from Rent The Runway, and Deborah Jackson from Plum Alley, to inspire girls to break through the “plastic ceiling”.

Barbie’s page doesn’t include a resume listing all of her previous careers (perhaps she’s worried she’ll be judged for being a job-changing, Gen-Y at heart!) but if you want to see the full list of her past exploits, Buzzfeed can help you out.

in the news: julian assange hits the catwalk

June 30, 2014 in fashion, news by Lauren

Ben Westwood models his Julian Assange collection (Photo: Ben Westwood)Julian Assange is… a model?

That’s right, the Wikileaks founder is going to make his catwalk debut for Ben Westwood (son of Vivienne, that is) during London Fashion Week in September.

Of course, that means the show has to take place within the walls of the Ecuadorian Embassy, where Assange has been living since the country granted him asylum.

Ben Westwood said the inspiration for the clothes in the show was Assange himself and his combat/beret look. Apparently one of the designs even features a “Julian Assange print”. Check out the designer modeling the collection (right).

monthly favourites: june

June Favourites

Fashion: I am completely in love with my new Karen Millen dress (1). It’s currently on sale and still available in most sizes as I write, both from Bloomingdale’s and also from Selfridges (which ships internationally – bonus points!). At £110, it’s a bargain for the perfect day-to-dinner dress that fits like it was made for me (though I should note, I bought one size larger than my regular size).

Face: Earlier this month, I had a wedding and in the search for the perfect lipstick to go with my Anthropologie Laced Verbena Dress, I discovered Charlotte Tilbury’s brand (2). For the wedding, I combined Lip Cheat in Pillow Talk, K.I.S.S.I.N.G Lipstick in Bitch Perfect and Lip Lustre Lacquer in Seduction. Since then, I’ve been wearing different combinations of the products pretty much every day – and from a tinted lip balm girl, that shows real love!

Food: I spent quite a bit of time in London this month (as you can probably guess by the proliferation of British brands in this post!) and while I was there, I discovered the most amazing tea of all time: Teapigs’ Liquorice and Mint (3). It is so delicious, refreshing and – best of all – caffeine free so it’s the perfect late night treat. It’s sweet enough to satisfied all of my dessert cravings (which is unheard of for me!) and I can’t recommend it highly enough. Teapigs ship internationally from their own website too.

Film: I finally caught up on X-Men: Days of Future Past (4) this month and it was incredible! I’m not usually a comic book movie kind of girl but this one knocked it out of the park for me – love it!

Flashback: As Game of Thrones reached its fourth season finale, I loved re-reading the fashion inspiration post I wrote back in 2012 (5).

2013 in review: movies

December 12, 2013 in movies by Lauren

I have to admit that I’ve made far fewer trips to the cinema this year than I would have liked, as you can probably tell by the distinct lack of reviews posted. One of my new year’s resolutions is actually to get back into watching more films and the below mash-up of films from 2013 has made me realise that I have a lot of catching up to do before 2014!

I haven’t even seen enough of the films on the list of releases to make a call on my favourite movie of the year – so instead I’m going to ask you! What was your favourite film of 2013?
