lusting for: victoria beckham for net-a-porter

November 3, 2011 in fashion by Lauren

Remember back in the day when Victoria Beckham was Posh Spice? It may be 15 years since we first heard of her (yes, doesn’t that make you feel old!) but now the former pop star is infinitely better know for her incredible fashion line (and her spunky husband).

If you’re a fan of her classic style, you’ll be excited to hear that VB has just launched an exclusive capsule collection of dresses on Net-A-Porter.

According to Vogue UK, Ms Beckham describes her collection as “chic, timeless and elegant.” I completely agree – but style doesn’t come cheap. The dresses range in price from £950 – £4,850.

My favourite piece from the collection is the fuchsia silk-blend double-crepe dress (£1,495).

Check out the whole collection at Net-A-Porter but be quick – the collection only launched yesterday but some styles have already sold out!

in the news: princesses are people too

October 28, 2011 in news by Lauren

The British Monarchy has today finally stepped into the 21st century and declared that royal sons and daughters will now have equal rights to the British throne.

The leaders of the 16 countries where the Queen is Head of State (including Australia) voted on the decision, which they approved unanimously.

In practical terms, the change means that if the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s eldest child is a girl, she will become queen instead of her younger brother becoming king.

In less practical terms, the change gives me an excuse to post a picture of Duchess Catherine looking gorgeous in the vintage Amanda Wakeley empire gown she wore for her first solo engagement this week (right).

Read more about the succession law changes on the BBC Website. Read more about the Duchess’ event at The Telegraph.

lusting for: runaway lapel coat

October 26, 2011 in fashion by Lauren

Continuing with my recent trend of lusting for fashion that will keep me warm, I’m crushing hard on the recently-released Runaway Lapel Coat from Anthropologie.

The collar is simply divine and despite being a self-declared klutz, I’m willing to take the risk of wearing pure white (though if you’re less game, it also comes in black).

It’s made of a wool-blend, so it suits the current weather perfectly, and it’s made by Elevenses (who coincidentally made my favourite coat from last season, the Pattern Maker Coat).

The Runaway Lapel Coat is currently available for US$198 (it’s not yet listed on Anthropologie’s EU site).

(almost) at the movies: sherlock holmes: a game of shadows

October 19, 2011 in movies by Lauren

The end-of-year blockbusters are lining up and of the trailers I’ve seen so far, I’m particularly looking forward to Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows.

I really enjoyed Robert Downey Jr.’s first attempt at Sherlock Holmes and I’m quite excited to see what he (and the always charming Jude Law as Watson) manage to pull off in the sequel.

Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows will be released in the US and the UK on 16 December, and in Australia on 5 January.

lusting for: the scarf cape

October 17, 2011 in fashion by Lauren

Summer seems like a distant memory now that the cold has set up camp, and here in Geneva, the temperatures will be flirting with freezing by the end of the week.

I’m reaching for my old favourite, cozy knits but I still crave something a little unexpected – which is why I’m seriously digging Tracy Reese’s charcoal scarf cape (right).

I think this one item has everything I want right now – a chunky scarf, a trendy cape, a wool/alpaca/acrylic blend (to combat the winter-itch factor) and a go-with-everything colour. I’m exuding some serious self control by not buying this one right away!

If you want to offer me the chance to live vicariously through you, pick up your own scarf coat from Tracy Reese for US$450
