August Favourites

Fashion: When a friend decided to host a white party, I was in trouble because I don’t do all white. Ever. There are multiple reasons for this but it boils down to (a) I’m a klutz and (b) I’m pasty so don’t look good in it. Fortunately H&M came to the rescue with a cheap but stylish white lace dress that was summery party perfection (1). I may even pull it out again for regular parties…

Face: Nobody likes a full face of make-up in summer (well, at least I don’t!) but when you want to feel a bit special, a sheer red lip can be just the ticket. I fell head over heels for Lipstick Queen’s Aloha (2) and, as it’s limited edition, I recommend you grab your own quick smart!

Food: The weather started to cool down a little earlier than I’d hoped, but I decided to embrace the temperatures by cooking up Adeline and Lumiere’s fantastic pumpkin, goat cheese and caramelised onion pizza (3). This recipe is very straight-forward, and it tastes like you slaved in the kitchen for hours!

Film: How can you not love Guardians of the Galaxy? (4). It was so much fun to watch and despite the fact that it was an all-out, space-fantasy story (AKA not my usual scene), I loved it!

Flashback: Over the final days of summer, I really enjoyed re-reading the post from 2012 about five must-pack items for a beach break (5).

beauty spot: summer holiday essentials

Summer beauty essentials

Summer holiday season is upon us so I thought it was a good time to share my summer beauty essentials. Whether you’re splashing in the surf, lazing by the pool or strolling around an exotic village, there are a few things every girl needs to carry in her luggage.

July Favourites

Fashion: I hit the sales hard this month but my favourite purchase is actually something I bought full-price (quelle horreur!) I am completely smitten with Anthropologie’s Tenaya Jumpsuit (1). It’s so cute and comfortable, perfect with flat sandals during the day or with heels for dinner. This one is going to be in high rotation over the summer!

Face: I may have gone a little overboard on beauty products while I was in New York and Paris this month (in truth, I could probably set up my own mini Sephora now) but my number one purchase has to be the GlamGlow YouthMud Mask (2). I know I’m incredibly late to the party on this and the entire rest of the blogosphere has already put it into the category of cult favourite – but there’s a reason! It exfoliates, tightens the skin and makes pores completely invisible. Your boyfriend might complain that you look like a swamp monster for 20 minutes (or at least mine does) but it’s worth it!

Food: You wouldn’t think I’d go hunting for Australians when I was on holidays in the US, but somehow it always seems to happen. Why, you ask? I need good coffee! Fortunately the team at Bluestone Lane Coffee (3) know their brew AND have three locations in Manhattan. Give them a go – although I take no responsibility if you can never face a cup of drip again!

Film: Yes, I was one of the people who Kickstarted Zac Braff’s new film, Wish I Was Here (4). Make my investment worthwhile and go see it!

Flashback: As I’ve kicked back into blogging more frequently again, I’ve enjoyed re-reading this post from 2010 about whether a person can be intelligent and still like fashion (5).

work out: sleek technique

Flick Swan and Victoria Marr of Sleek Technique (Photo: Drew Tommons)Confession time: I’ve never been one for working out. But last year, I was involved in a nasty crash on the slopes that saw me blow out my knee. In the months of recovery that followed, I found that one of the best things for both relieving the pain AND rebuilding my strength was… ballet!

I danced all throughout my childhood and teenage years so it seemed a natural fit that I should come back to it. But the biggest problem I encountered was the lack of adult classes available in Switzerland. I was about to resign myself to plié-ing alone when I discovered Sleek Technique.

The brainchild of dancers Flick Swan and Victoria Marr, Sleek Technique offers a range of pre-recorded ballet workouts as well as live classes that you can join from the comfort of your own home.

The workouts are short enough that you have no excuse for not squeezing in at least one day, and often I’ll combine one of the pre-recorded toning workouts with one of the cardio ones (the times for live classes were previously not amazing for me but now that they’ve added some extra offerings, I’ll have to get onto those too!)

This is the only exercise I’ve ever stuck with so something is obviously working! If you’re into dance, I’d recommend you give Sleek Technique a go!

beauty spot: french pharmacy favourites

French Pharmacy Favourites

I love French pharmacies and when I was in Paris this week, I couldn’t resist stocking up on all my favourite products. While I prefer browsing charming corner pharmacies, this time I was on a mission so I went to the big CityPharma in Saint-Germain. I should warn you that it’s crowded and not at all charismatic, but it has everything you could possibly want!
