in the news: the devil wears prada sequel is coming

May 31, 2012 in entertainment

I love The Devil Wears Prada by Lauren Weisberger – I own the book in two languages and have seen the film adaption starring Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway more times than I can count – so I’m very excited by the news out of Camp Weisberger today.

The author and former Vogue assistant is in the process of writing a sequel to the novel, due out April 2013.

Revenge Wears Prada: The Devil Returns picks up eight years after the original novel. According to Entertainment Weekly, Andy is now editing The Plunge, the hottest bridal magazine around, alongside Emily (yes, the former first assistant is now her BFF). While Andy is planning her own wedding to Max, a handsome media scion, she remains haunted by her impeccably heeled former boss — and the magazine world being as small as it is, it’s only a matter of time before she hears the dreaded syllables “Ahn-dre-ah!” again.

Are you as excited as I am to read the new novel? And can we dare to dream of a film sequel reuniting the original cast?

gift idea #8: the harry potter fan

December 8, 2011 in entertainment

The book series ended a few years ago, the film series ended this year and now poor Harry Potter fans have nothing left to keep them going.

Perhaps you could excite the grown-up fan in your life with a boxed adult set of the books (adult refers to the cover only – there’s no change in content, in case you were wondering).

As a closet fan myself, I already have all the books in the children’s covers but love the idea of having the complete set in hardback.

You can buy the box set from The Book Depository for £85.68 (or equivalent cost in several other currencies).

If you’re looking for some new magic, The Night Circus has had critics buzzing and could be worth offering to fill the gap in your Potter-fan’s life. I haven’t read it yet but it’s definitely on my holiday reading list.

friday film: organizing the bookcase

February 25, 2011 in entertainment

Can you believe it’s Friday again already? Admittedly it’s been a big week for me, but it seems to have just flown (pun intended).

To celebrate the impeding arrival of the weekend, today’s Friday film is cute and upbeat. I was made aware of it by the brilliant Anthology Magazine (seriously, check it out) and the combination of Rodrigo y Gabriela with those beautiful books brought a real smile to my jet-lagged face. Enjoy!

lusting for: book bags

January 27, 2011 in fashion

In early December, I fell madly in love with Olympia Le Tan’s book clutches, after seeing Natalie Portman carry the Lolita version to the Black Swan premiere.

Le Tan’s intricate reproductions of classic book covers are created using embroidered canvas and the results are truly stunning. While I was desperate to add A Streetcar Named Desire to my accessories drawer, the price was just too far out of my budget at 1087€.

Today while reading Goldenmeans’ blog, I was excited to see Kate Spade has released a newspaper clutch for $125 – but even more excited once I realised it was part of a greater collection that included book cover clutches at a (more) affordable price point!

Kate Spade’s collection is quite impressive – I’m enamoured with the Emma and Great Expectations clutches (both $325). For something a little more substantial, there are also totes available, including a gorgeous yellow The Great Gatsby version ($175).

If you’d like to get your own bookish style on, the collection is available at Kate Spade and Bloomingdale’s.

gift idea #22: the globetrotter

December 22, 2010 in entertainment, travel

You’ve just discovered that your cousin who has been backpacking his way around the world is now going to be home for Christmas. You haven’t bought him anything yet and it’s too late to guarantee online deliveries will make it. So what do you get him?

I think Transit Maps of the World would be the perfect present for any unexpected (or expected) globetrotter this Christmas.

It contains the maps of every rapid-transit system in the world including graphics, diagrams, photographs and historical data. With it in their pack, the lucky recipient will be set no matter what city they wake up in!

It’s available in Borders here in Australia for $49.95, from Anthropologie in the US for $25 or quite possibly from your local bookstore (give them a call).
