Chances are the snow bunny in your life probably has all the gear she needs to hit the slopes. However, if she’s here in Switzerland, she just might not have the snow!

Perhaps your snow bunny would like this gorgeous necklace from Pure Rox in Print on Etsy. It has two little snowflakes and a dog tag engraved with “Let it snow!”

The necklace costs US$48 but get in quick if you’re keen – there’s only one listed and I might just nab it for myself!

in the news: elizabeth taylor’s jewels on tour

June 29, 2011 in news

Elizabeth Taylor was almost as famous for her jewels as she was for her acting and now that their owner has left for the big jewelry box in the sky, those jewels need to find new homes.

Before they are auctioned off by Christie’s in New York in mid-December, they’re going on a world tour starting in September and going to Moscow, London, Dubai, Geneva, Paris, Hong Kong and Los Angeles.

The tour will end in New York, where Christie’s plans a “museum-quality exhibition” of the late actress’ collection that will fill its entire gallery space in early December.

The public will also have the chance to see Taylor’s couture collection, art and film memorabilia, which will also form part of the auction.

A portion of the proceeds from the exhibition admissions and publications related to the sales will be donated to The Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation.

I’m so excited the tour is coming through Geneva and I’ll be sure to report back to you on the exhibit! Will you be going along if the tour is coming through your town?

lusting for: vivienne westwood jewels

March 3, 2011 in fashion

Vivienne Westwood’s newest venture is the ‘Get A Life’ Palladium Jewelry Collection.

I’m sure I would’ve loved it anyway but having the gorgeous Christina Hendricks as the face of the brand makes it somewhat irresistible.

Some might argue that the jewelry pales in significance next to Christina’s own, ahem, assets but I think she’s a perfect choice for the campaign.

As the name suggests, the jewelery is made from Palladium, a natural white metal from the platinum family which maintains its colour and shape over time.

The designs themselves are inspired by nature and symbols of paganism, as evidenced in the stunning photo of Hendricks.

The Vivienne Westwood ‘Get a Life’ Palladium Jewellery Collection will be available in Vivienne Westwood boutiques in London and LA from this month.

the anthropologist goes fishing

January 4, 2011 in fashion

Now that we’re back to work after the holidays and into the new year, I think we all deserve a bit of a distracting treat.

Anthropologie’s blog, The Anthropologist, has commissioned an amazing series of photographs for its January feature, continuing its mission of championing emerging and established artists across various disciplines.

Shawn Davis is a fly tying artist (as in fly fishing) as well as a self-taught goldsmith. He has turned the humble fishing fly into art so beautiful that even those of us who detest fishing are drawn in by his creations.

The fly Davis created for The Anthropologist’s photo series was inspired by Rumpelstiltskin. The artist spun together 100 strands of various materials including 18K gold strands that were finer than human hair, flax, and ostrich herl to create a fly that was also a beautiful pendant.

The photographs document the approximately 100 hour process Davis undertook to create this intricate and amazing piece of art. It’s too beautiful to use for fishing in its traditional sense but it certainly works to lure me in.

You can view the full photographic series at The Anthropologist.

lusting for: disheveled by design

January 3, 2011 in fashion

One of my new year’s resolutions is to cut back on the amount I spend on clothes. I have a full wardrobe (so full, in fact, that I’m currently selling a lot of my Anthro items on eBay – see the widget in my sidebar) so I really should take advantage of those items I already own.

One of the ways I plan to do this is by focusing on new accessories instead of clothing (I know, it’s sort of cheating but even shopaholics need a 12-step plan).

I’m trying to make sure the accessories I do buy go with multiple outfits. For example, Anthropologie’s Disheveled by Design necklace is currently sitting on my wishlist.

The coloured pearl-beads interspersed with sparkles and clear beads would make it easy to dress up or down, and I like the interest provided by the haphazard design.

If you’re focusing on accessories this year too (or even if you’re not), you can buy the Disheveled by Design necklace from Anthropologie for US $48.
