(almost) at the movies: the great gatsby

May 23, 2012 in movies

We’ve been waiting a while for this trailer to land and today, it’s finally here!

The upcoming release of The Great Gatsby is directed by Baz Luhrmann and stars Leonardo diCaprio, Carey Mulligan and Tobey Macguire, and it’s lined up to be the biggest release of the 2012 holiday season.

I’m excited to see the costumes look as incredible as I’d hoped, but with Catherine Martin at the helm, I had no doubts. Stay tuned for a fashion inspiration post, because the film has already been influencing the catwalk months before its release.

What do you think of the slick, art-deco influenced trailer? Are you looking forward to the film as much as I am?

The Great Gatsby will be released on 25 December in the US, 26 December in the UK and 10 January 2013 in Australia.

(almost) at the movies: titanic 3D

Yes, you did read the title of this post correctly. The mammoth film about the mammoth ship is going to be re-released in 3D.

Personally, I feel it’s a little soon for a re-release but I guess next year, it will be 15 years since the original release (does that make anyone else feel really old?)

The trailer looks rather corny this time around – and is James Cameron really better known now for Avatar than for Titanic? How times change.

Check out the trailer below and then let me know… will you be queuing up to see Jack and Rose in 3D?

Titanic 3D will be released on 6 April 2012.

at the movies: inception

July 26, 2010 in movies

I quite enjoy going to a movie without having any idea what it’s going to be about but it so rarely happens, even with advanced screenings. Usually trailers give the plot away or early reviews let you know what you’re in for.

Despite having a few big name actors (Leonardo DiCaprio, Marion Cotillard and Ellen Page) and a hot director (Christopher Nolan of The Dark Knight fame), relatively little was known about Inception before its release. I guess my copy of the cryptic marketing was lost in the post (so check it out at Wired instead).

The movie itself was amazing. I really enjoyed both the execution of the film and the premise behind it (spoiler alert: that premise being that you can steal information from someone by accessing their subconscious while they dream).

I don’t want to ruin it for you so all I’ll say is this – if you liked The Matrix and/or Vanilla Sky, you need to see this movie. In fact, even if you didn’t, I recommend you see it. Hours after leaving the cinema, I’m still thinking about it.

In a nutshell, it’s the best film I’ve seen this year.
