in the news: victoria’s secret expanding to uk

August 22, 2011 in fashion, news

British ladies, prepare to get your knickers in a knot – American lingerie giant Victoria’s Secret is headed for your shores!

The underwear darling is the latest in a string of recent trans-Atlantic expansion announcements including Anthropologie, J.Crew and Forever 21.

Victoria’s Secret’s London flagship store will open next year on the corner of New Bond Steet, with another 2-3 stores in the London area.

The brand will then expand across the UK before potentially continuing to grow internationally (Aussie girls, could you be next?)

What do you think about the news? I’m a big fan of the brand and will definitely be stopping in on my cross-channel shopping trips!

lusting for: elizabeth taylor’s style

March 24, 2011 in fashion

It’s always sad when the world loses an icon and the news of Elizabeth Taylor’s death at 79 definitely falls into that category.

Despite her tumultuous personal life (including eight marriages), she was the classic Hollywood screen goddess – seemingly always immaculately dressed in ball gowns and bejeweled to the nines.

However the look that I remember the most isn’t a red carpet gown or her Cleopatra costume. It’s the simple white slip that she worked to perfection in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof alongside Paul Newman (right).

If you would like to recreate her classic yet seductive look, check out DKNY’s Vintage Whispers Full Slip ($48), Fleur’t Amelie Chemise from Shopbob ($85)or Anthropologie’s Lace Edged Slip ($58).

three thursday titbits

July 1, 2010 in news

1. John Paul Gaultier has teamed up with La Perla to design a high end lingerie collection comprising 27 styles, most of which will be handmade. Gaultier is more famous for using underwear as outwear (such as Madonna’s famous conical bra) but his corsets, bras and briefs will no doubt be just as popular. The collection will be in stores from November, with prices starting at £405. See vogue.co.uk for more.

2. Diane von Furstenberg has asked the Radio City Rockettes to perform at the Life Ball 2010 in Vienna on 17 July (the opening event for the International AIDS Conference). The legendary dancers will wear DVF wrap rompers from her cruise collection (right) for a choreographed fashion segment. “There is nothing more New York than the Radio City Rockettes,” von Furstenberg said. “We are pleased to bring those legs, those kicks and those glamorous women with us to Vienna.” See wwd.com for more.

3. It seems Sex and the City 2 was the last we’ll see of the fab four. Apparently any possibility of a third movie was canned after the shocking reviews and negativity surrounding the recent release. Read more at dropdeadgorgeous.com.
