in the news: emmanuelle alt’s déjà vu

March 15, 2011 in news

Vogue Paris has released a preview of Emmanuelle Alt’s first cover as Editrice-in-Chief, after Carine Roitford left at the end of January.

The cover itself is beautiful. Gisele Bundchen was photographed in St Barth’s looking spring fresh in eyeletted Dolce and Gabannna, embracing the 70s revival trend in a modern way.

However that dress looks a little familiar, doesn’t it?

That’s because it’s already been featured on not one, but two international Vogue covers. Britt Maren is wearing it on the current April issue of Vogue Germany, while Constance Jablonski wore it for Vogue Espana back in February. Eek!

Hopefully it won’t be another situation like last year’s gold Balmain (seven covers) or Miu Miu (four covers and numerous fashion spreads) – at least Anne Hathaway hasn’t worn it yet!

I guess we can safely assume Alt has an eye for trends – and it will be interesting to check out the rest of the magazine when it hits stores on 25 March.

After a month of shows in New York, London, Milan and Paris, the A/W 2011 Fashion Week season is over.

To celebrate one of the most eventful seasons in recent memory (well, in Paris, at least) videographer Justin Wu teamed up with the girls from Models.com to make this cute lip-sync clip.

Check out top models including Alessandra Ambrosi, Anja Rubik and Karlie Kloss goofing around in the streets and hotels of Paris and Milan intersperced with footage from the shows (keep an eye out for Lady Gaga!) Enjoy!

in the news: paris fashion week

March 2, 2011 in fashion

Paris Fashion Week kicked off today and while it’s still about 500km away from me, I feel much more connected being in the same continent!

Already there are some big stories, with headlines mostly consumed with news that John Galliano was sacked by Dior last night over his racist rant during Milan Fashion Week.

In more upbeat news, Lady Gaga has confirmed she will make her runway debut tonight for Thierry Mugler. Nobody seems particularly surprised by the news, given designer Nicola Formichetti has been Gaga’s stylist for a while but it will be interesting to see what she wears when she struts her stuff.

If you’d like to see Gaga on the catwalk, the Theirry Mulger show will stream live on the brand’s Facebook page at 9pm Paris time tonight (7am Sydney time, 3pm EST).

in the news: cruz edits paris vogue

April 21, 2010 in fashion, news

Penélope Cruz had the honour of editing Paris Vogue’s May issue, a month typically themed around the Cannes Film Festival. However it appears Ms Cruz may have taken a slightly different focus, with the covers showing an emphasis on (RED) products which raise money for The Global Fund to fight AIDS in Africa.

The 210-page issue has three cover choices, each featuring celebrity supporters of (RED) – Penélope with Bono; Penélope with Meryl Streep; or Penélope with Meryl, Kate Winslet, Julianne Moore, Naomi Watts and Gwyneth Paltrow (right).

Multi-talented Penélope not only edited the issue but also models in a feature photographed by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin. The Spanish beauty has also slipped in some photos she snapped of pregnant Salma Hayek as well as Javier Bardem chatting with Sean Penn in a Californian bar.

Cruz’s director friend Pedro Almodóvar interviewed actress Jeanne Moreau for a feature titled “Talk to Her” and John Galliano also contributed a collage depicting the Penélope and Almodóvar.

The issue is out this week with a cover price of €4.90.
