(almost) at the movies: new year’s eve

October 10, 2011 in movies

The guys who brought you the (terrible) film Valentine’s Day are having a second go at trying to recreate the success of the (infinitely superior) British film Love Actually. This time, they’re taking the ensemble cast approach to another holiday – New Year’s Eve.

I’m not holding my breath for this one but I can’t help but hope that this cast (Robert de Niro, Ashton Kutcher, Katherine Heigl, Sarah Jessica Parker, Jessica Biel, Michelle Pfeiffer, Hillary Swank…) will pull out the goods. New Year’s Eve hits cinemas in Australia on 8 December before being released in the US and UK on 9 December.

in the news: sex and the city back on tv?

August 15, 2011 in entertainment

A couple of months back, we heard that a SATC prequel film might be in the works, starring Blake Lively (at the time reported to be a young Carrie, now thought to be a young Samantha).

However, the hot new word on the street is that the prequel won’t be a film at all, but a TV show. That’s right – if the rumour mill is to be believed, Sex and the City: The Early Years could hit a small screen near you in the not too distant future.

Apparently Sarah Jessica Parker has also signed on to produce the new series. No actresses have been named, though earlier film-related speculation suggested Lively could be joined by Elizabeth Olsen as Carrie, Selena Gomez as Charlotte and Emma Roberts as Miranda.

Of course, original series creator Darren Star hasn’t confirmed the rumours (actually, nobody has) but I’d be equal parts excited and nervous to see the prequel series come to fruition. What do you think of the possibility?

(almost) at the movies: i don’t know how she does it

June 1, 2011 in movies

If you couldn’t help but wonder what Carrie Bradshaw’s life would’ve been like if she’d got married, had kids and taken to climbing the corporate ladder, you’re going to want to see I Don’t Know How She Does It.

Not only does the film star Sarah Jessica Parker as lead character Carrie Kate Reddy, but there seem to be those familiar monologues from the old SATC days and it looks like Kate even lives on the same street as Carrie!

Take a look at the trailer and let me know what you think – personally, I think it could go either way but I really want it to be good.

I Don’t Know How She Does It will be released in the US on 16 September 2011 and in Australia on 3 November 2011.

best dressed at the CFDA awards

June 8, 2010 in fashion

The Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) Awards are the fashion industry’s Oscars so it was wonderful to see fashion icons old and young frock up for Monday night’s ceremony.

Marc Jacobs was named Womenswear Designer of the Year while David Neville and Marcus Wainwright of rag & bone won Menswear Designer of the Year.

Supermodel Iman also received an honourary Fashion Icon Award (and told husband David Bowie that he wasn’t the only icon in the house anymore).

The red carpet was fabulous as expected for such a fashion-savvy event.

Honourable mentions to Dakota Fanning and Emilie de Ravin for looking cute as pie. See photos at dailymail.co.uk.

Best dressed is a tie for me between Gwyneth Paltrow looking glam in Michael Kors and Sarah Jessica Parker looking spring fresh in Alexander McQueen.

I love SJP’s gown to death and Gwyneth’s entire look is perfection.

SATC london premiere déjà vu

May 29, 2010 in fashion

Is it just me or are there too many similarities between Sarah Jessica Parker’s outfit for the Sex and the City movie premiere in London in 2008 and her outfit for the Sex and the City 2 movie premiere in London this week? The two gowns are quite similar in shape, with both being designed by the late Alexander McQueen (and the one this week even coming from the 2008 spring collection). And despite the flack she copped for her headpiece the first time around, SJP went back to Philip Treacy for another over-the-top headpiece. Personally, I prefer the fresh green 2008 look but what do you think?
