lusting for: florals for spring

March 20, 2012 in fashion

Spring has sprung, my friends, can you believe it? The trees have buds, tulips are overflowing in the stores and I am overcome with a desire to deck myself out in pastels and florals (sometimes at the same time!)

While Miranda Priestly may be sarcastic about florals for spring, I’m more than happy to wear prints so flowery that they could trigger my boyfriend’s hayfever.

One gorgeous frock I saw today is actually a bridesmaid dress from BHLDN but it’s too pretty be worn for just one day. The impressionist florals in delicate candy colours couple with the bubble hem and detailed bodice for a fresh look perfect for any spring party.

The In Full Bloom Dress cost $400 from BHLDN and can be bought online or in store.

lusting for: spring time dress

It’s that time of year when the weather goes completely nuts. Over the weekend, I was walking around town without a coat but then yesterday, I was caught in a snow flurry! I’m looking forward to the consistently warm days that will be here in just a few short months.

Of course, one of the reasons I’m most looking forward to warmer weather is the chance to wear cute sundresses.

I’m particularly loving the appropriately named Spring Time Dress from Ruche ($38.99). The fuschia colour and pretty folds remind me of a season-fresh tulip – and the dress would be so easy to pull on and slip out for a casual alfresco drink.

What are you lusting for this spring?

lusting for: wearcast app

April 21, 2011 in fashion

One of the downsides of growing up in sunny Australia is that I don’t know how to dress for different seasons. Until a few years ago, 15′C/60′F was my standard winter minimum and 30′C/90′F was normal for summer. (“Why did I ever leave?” I hear you ask…)

This time of year is the most difficult – the temperatures mean nothing to me so I have no idea how to dress!

It seems I’m not the only one with my dilemma because now there’s an iPhone app to help out.

Wearcast was developed by meteorologists and uses your location to tell you exactly what you need to wear outside at that time, as well as later that day.

It can also give you a clothing forecast for up to five days into the future, which is great if you’re packing for a trip, and there’s a useful setting that allows you to set your own temperature sensitivity (for example, I’m always colder than everyone around me so the app will adjust my clothing prediction to suit).

You can purchase Wearcast from the iPhone App store for $0.99. Now if only they’d develop it for Android…

lusting for: clos-ette hangers

April 7, 2011 in fashion

It’s spring cleaning time and I’m sure many of us are focusing that attention on our closets.

While it’s always good to be queen of your closet (a la Molly from Anthromollogies), your rule over your loyal clothing subjects can definitely be improved if you can see everything you own.

To help me with this, I’m lusting for the gorgeous hangers from Clos-ette.

The flocked covering prevents slippage, while the points are rounded to prevent those annoying shoulder bumps. They also come in a great range of shapes and colours (personally I’m partial to the nude).

Prices start from $12 for 10 shirt hangers and all products are available from the Clos-ette website. Sales are also occasionally listed on Gilt, so keep an eye out there too.

Happy spring cleaning!

friday film: mulberry s/s 2011

April 1, 2011 in fashion

Today, I thought I’d give you a break from the madness of April Fools’ Day by keeping The Dernier Cri a prank-free zone. Instead, let’s celebrate the beginning of April with this gorgeous clip promoting Mulberry’s S/S 2011 collection.

Still photographs from the Mulberry print campaign were enhanced with visual effects including animation, rotoscoping and repainting to bring the pictures to life (and Daydreamin’ by Lupe Fiasco as a backing track helps add to the springtime feel!)

Enjoy – and good luck avoiding your coworkers’ pranks!
