(almost) at the movies: catching fire

April 15, 2013 in movies

The much-awaited trailer for the second film in the Hunger Games trilogy, Catching Fire, was revealed at the MTV Movie Awards last night… and based on what we can see, I think we’ll have another fashion inspiration in the works!

Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) and Effie Trinket (Elizabeth Banks) wear some spectacular outfits and I can’t wait to see them in full! (Of course, I was a big fan of the book – once I got around to reading it – so I’m looking forward to seeing the film for other reasons too!)

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is due to be released on 21 November in Australia and 22 November in the US and UK.

(almost) at the movies: cloud atlas

I must confess I haven’t read the best-selling novel (it’s shameful how often this seems to be happening lately) but watching this trailer makes me want to run down to the store and buy it right away!

For those, like me, who haven’t read it, Cloud Atlas is, at a very basic level, a story of connectedness, where actions in the past affect the future.

The cast of the film includes Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Hugo Weaving, Susan Sarandon, Hugh Grant, Jim Sturgess, Jim Broadbent… the list goes on! It’s made by the creators of The Matrix and the director of Run Lola Run so we can expect mind-blowing things. Check out the trailer and let me know what you think!

Cloud Atlas premiered at TIFF last week and will be released in the US and Canada on 26 October, in Australia on 21 February 2013 and in the UK on 22 March 2013.

(almost) at the movies: oz the great and powerful

July 16, 2012 in movies

My fairytale moment continues! First, we had a peek at Angelina Jolie in costume as Maleficent, then Christian Louboutin released his interpretation of Cinderella’s glass slipper. Today, we have the trailer for the upcoming prequel to the Wizard of Oz.

Oz: The Great and Powerful is the story of behind the Wizard (James Franco). It’s a slightly different take to the musical, Wicked, but it looks like it will be just as amazing. What do you think?

The film is due to be released in Australia on 7 March 2013, and in the US and the UK on 8 March 2013.

(almost) at the movies: maleficent

The latest in the long line of classic fairy tale re-tellings is Maleficent, which will tell the story of Sleeping Beauty through the eyes of the evil sorceress. It will focus on the story of how she turned evil, which sounds a little bit like Wicked to me (not that there’s anything wrong with that!)

Starring in the title role is none other than Angelina Jolie. The first photo of her in costume was released today – and doesn’t she look fabulous!

Elle Fanning will be playing Princess Aurora, so hopefully we’ll see some photos of her soon too.

We’ll have to wait a while to see the full film, though – Maleficent isn’t due for release in the US until 14 March… in 2014!

(almost) at the movies: the perks of being a wallflower

June 5, 2012 in movies

If you ever wondered what Emma Watson would sound like with an American accent, now’s your chance. The first trailer for The Perks of Being a Wallflower (and her first-post Harry Potter leading role) has just been released.

I have high hopes for this film and the trailer looks promising (plus I’m pleasantly surprised to find out Paul Rudd is playing Charlie’s English teacher). What do you think?

The Perks of Being a Wallflower will be released in the US on 14 September. UK and Australian release dates are yet to be announced.
