friday film: how to shoot a vogue cover

It’s that time of year when The September Issues hit the shelves and to promote Vogue UK’s edition, the magazine has created a short film directed by photographer Mario Testino.

Cara Delevingne looks amazing as she shows us exactly how to shoot a Vogue cover. And if you’re wondering who created the fantastic backing track, it’s by female rock duo Deap Vally. Happy Friday!

in the news: fashion’s night out 2012 dates announced

Vogue has announced the dates for this year’s Fashion’s Night Out. Interestingly, the event, which started as a way to boost sales for NYC retailers during the GFC, has been expanded so that it will now take place in all 19 countries where Vogue is published.

The UK, US, France, Italy, Germany, Spain, Russia, Mexico, Australia and Korea will hold their celebrations on September 6; China, India, Germany and Russia on September 7; Taiwan and Japan on September 8; Brazil on September 10 and 12; Portugal, Italy, Turkey, The Netherlands and Mexico on September 13; Italy on September 18; and Greece on September 20 and 25.

Some countries will have more than one city participating for the first time. Italy will hold events in Milan, Rome and Florence; Germany in Berlin and Dusseldorf; Russia, in Moscow and St Petersburg; Mexico will host events in Mexico City and Guadalajara; Brazil in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro; and in Greece in both Athens and Thessaloniki.

The fashion collection for this year’s event has also been released, featuring letter-blocked t-shirts ($25) and canvas totes ($30). While the shirts don’t do much for me, I’m quite a fan of the blue tote (above). All items can be bought from the Fashion’s Night Out website.

Will you be hitting FNO this year?

in the news: vogue paris now in english

If you don’t speak French but you love the style of Vogue Paris, you’re in luck!

My local edition of the Vogue imprint has just launched a new website in English so you can get your news directly from the French fashion capital without using a translator.

I wonder whether this will remove some of the allure of the French title, given it maintained a certain je ne sais quoi from being only accessible to those who spoke the language of love.

Perhaps the Voguettes thought about this, because the English site features only a selection of handpicked editorials, with users still needing to go to the French site to get the full story.

Will you check out the English site for Vogue Paris?

in the news: kate moss covers the september issue

Kate Moss is cover girl for Vogue’s September issue and while she’s wearing a royal purple McQueen gown on the cover, it’s all about her wedding on the inside.

There are dozens of the official Mario Testino-snapped wedding photos in the mag, including my personal favourite (right). You can also check out all the stylish celebs who attended the nuptials, including Carine Roitford, Daphne Guinness, Stella McCartney and Naomi Campbell.

Hamish Bowles article gives an insight into the wedding itsef, including fashion pariah John Galliano’s thoughts on creating her wedding gown – “She dared me to be John Galliano again… I couldn’t pick up a pencil. It’s been my creative rehab.”

Check out the full story when Vogue’s September issue hits news stands on 23 August.

PS On a related note, did you catch the @CondeElevator Twitter feed? Apparently it’s all over now but it was fun while it lasted.
